Thera sat under a tree in the oasis. Like always, the girl was alone. Most days it didn't bother her, today, however, it bugged her. A letter could be seen in the dark haired girl's hand, one that made her loneliness greater than ever. Her beloved companion of ten years, a Greyhound named Aba, had fallen ill. Her parents, simple farmers, didn't have enough money to get Aba the proper treatment. They wrote to her, explaining that they would do everything possible to comfort the ailing dog, but warned Thera to not get her hopes up. She knew that within a few weeks, she would be alone again. Without a single friend in the world, Thera questioned her social choices. She wondered what she would be like if she had been a friendlier person. If she had attempted to maintain relationships instead of scoffing at them. Would she be happier? Would she be well liked? Would she be someone people wanted to know? Sighing, the brunette pushed her hair back in an attempt to rid her mind of such thoughts. She failed.
Reading the letter over again, a tear fell from her green eyes. Loneliness of the past five years pushed on her shoulders like an enormous weight from the gods. Leaning back, the young witch rested her head on the tree. What Thera would give to make the year go faster. Speed up time so she could be home in the groves. Closing her eyes, she could see it. The way the sun's rays cascaded through the ancient olive trees. She could see the distant mountains, almost blue in appearance. With visions of home flooding her mind, Thera began to drift to sleep.

Lisbet was feeling as if she was on top of the world, she couldn't believe that Iason Damokles was interested in HER! And not because she was a Veela. She skipped into her room and bounced on her bed, her blonde tresses cascading around the pillows. She sighed and looked up at the ceiling, she couldn't believe it, then she realized that she had to much energy to lay in bed and daydream about her crush. She jumped up and grabbed her wand and her cloak and left her room again. She walked to one of the port keys that would take her to the Oasis and grabbed it. She felt a whoosh and felt the ground leap from under her and before she knew it she had landed on the ground outside by the fountain. She looked around and saw some people talking and giggling and others doing homework, she saw her friend Caly's cat Artemis lurking around the fountain looking at little birds that were hopping around in the water. She smiled and walked around the courtyard. She soon found Thera Mettalokis with her eyes closed. She wasn't sure if she was sleeping or not but decided to sit next to her and gently shake her. Thera...are you okay? She didn't want to alarm her or anything but Lisbet had seen others drift off to sleep and never wake up so she wanted to be sure that the girl was okay.

Her bright eyes opened swiftly when she felt someone's hand shake her. An internal groan couldn't be helped when she heard the voice then saw who it was. Lisbet Aragon was one of the very few people Thera could tolerate for more than five minutes. She still didn't consider the girl a friend by any means, though. The brunette thought the blonde was far too cheer at any point in the day. It became irksome to her after awhile. But here she was, stuck in a pit of despair and an opportunity to change had presented itself. The girl wondered if it was a sign from the gods. sitting up slightly, Thera held out the letter that had ruined her day. Friends share things, right? "My Greyhound...he's really old and sick. There isn't much my parents can do for him." Thera was thoroughly shocked with her tone. For once, she was speaking to someone, that wasn't a family memeber, and there wasn't a hint of malice in her voice. Instead the pain echoed out and was mixed with a desperation for a friend. Running a hand through her hair, she smiled tightly at the other witch. "Everyone dies at some point..." Wasn't that the truth though. Everyone does die. At any point in time life can be taken. She looked down at her hands and frowned. Thera hated death.

When Thera opened her eyes Lisbet let out a small sigh of relief, sure she didn't know Thera very well and tended to stay away from her due to their clashing personalities but Lisbet never wished ill will on anyone. She gave Thera a small smile before pulling her hand back onto her own lap. When she saw Thera hold out the letter Lisbet took it gently from her hand and read the letter. Poor Thera! Lisbet couldn't imagine losing her beloved pet, she finished up the letter and slowly handed it back to Thera. Oh Thera...I'm so sorry...is there anything I could do to help? Lisbet picked up on Thera's tone and noted that she wasn't speaking to her with her usual uppity tone. She masked her surprise and said quietly, I'm sure you're parents are doing everything they can to keep him comfortable. She pulled out her flask of firewhiskey and offered it to Thera. It helps with the pain. Lisbet knew about loss very well and knew that Thera would need some form of distraction. Lisbet nodded and said, Very true...It never gets any easier to get through it. She looked out beyond the courtyard and thought about losing her cousin who was a year younger than she was. She had been a first year and recalled that the Head Master at the time had allowed her to leave the school to see her family in her time of need. Have you talked to the Head Master about you going home for the weekend to say good bye when the time comes? I think he would be more than understanding about it. She looked at Thera and smiled gently.
