Since his birthdays weren’t acknowledged, Ryan would usually only look it up when necessary, and then promptly forget the date. One afternoon, when he was eight, Ryan decided to go digging around in the file cabinet. While looking, he retrieved his birth certificate. Seeing that his birthday was only a few days away, and wanting to do something for once, Ryan asked Alex to take him to a museum. It took a long time, but he finally persuaded Alex to take him. He took a camera, and Alex bought him a cake at the end of the day. As weird as it felt to have his birthday actually celebrated, it was one of the most memorable, and happiest, days of his life.

HISTORY: Alexia Simons used to be a strict no party girl, even though she grew up rich. Her father was the head of a rather successful The stereotypical goody-goody two shoes. Her parents gave her a strict curfew. No parties, no alcohol. No boys, and no sex. She was aiming to go to an Ivy; strict, clean, and competitive. Those thoughts changed when she began to fall in love with a boy that, quite frankly, didn’t even know that she existed. At the beginning of her senior year, she attended a start of year party in hopes to impress him so he would dump his current date. That night, driven by curiosity, she got drunk, and lost her virginity to another boy. Once she realized what she had been missing, she felt like she had to make it all up. She increasingly got rebellious at home. Her grades dropped, and her parents became more and more displeased. Then, the night after prom, her mother found birth control medication in Alexia’s room. That proved to be the last straw. A mass fight ensued, and Alexia walked out of the house. The following months, she spent at bars, trying to seduce men…and it usually worked. Then, one night, James Smith walked into her life. She had intended it to become more of a one time fling, but it started growing into something more. He was from a wealthy family, and was ambitiously chasing his dream of becoming an actor. He had such a way with words, and he walked like he owned the place. It was easy for her to fall passionately in love again.
99.9% of the time, they were very careful, since they never wanted to have kids. Then that .1% when they weren’t careful would come along. It came on a Saturday night when they were both wildly drunk out of their minds…and Alexia got pregnant. Both of them freaked out; neither of them really wanted to parents. With that thought lingering over their heads, things went down rolling down hill rather fast. On March 25, Ryan was born to parents who, quite frankly, were not ready to raise a child. Hours later, Alexia started to suffer post-partum depression. James did all he could for her, but he couldn’t do much. Two days later, he got the easy way out; he had to leave. He had finally gotten his big break. His agent had finally hooked him up with a traveling company. Distraught, Alexia gave Tristan over to the care of their house keeper, Eliza, and started going back to bars. Now that she had an actual bed to take them back to, she would lead them back to James' house. He’d never know a thing…unless Ryan ratted her out. To make sure he'd never find James, she locked Ryan inside the house for most of his life. She also made it a habit to remind him to be quiet every time she crossed paths with him while with a fling. Besides giving him a "shh" while going to her room with a "friend", Alexia never bothered to acknowledge that she had a son. After a while, Ryan stopped coming to watch. James never did come back, not that Alexia could remember anyway…. Ryan has never used "mom" or "dad" but rather refers to his parents by their first names.
Eliza mainly "raised" Ryan, along with giving him his name. Alex also chipped in from time to time. They didn't act like parents to Ryan, persay; they treated him like he was their charge, which he was. Eliza was just the housekeeper, and Alex was just the butler, together, they ran the house. While watching him grow up, Eliza started noticing little quirks about her charge. The way that the lights would flicker if he got upset, or how the Gerber bottle would shoot itself at the wall if he wasn't hungry, when she was trying to feed him... James long distantly arranged for him to be home schooled, but the tutors slowly stopped coming since Ryan quickly outgrew them. Everything he knows, has come from either reading, or the internet. That being said, Ryan had a lot of time to himself when he was younger. He learned how to occupy himself a little too well. He grew up in his "book room" with books, movies, a tree, a computer, and music as his only friends. Everything he needs/wants, he just pays for with his father's funds.
The only time Ryan was allowed outside the house grounds was for doctor's and dentist appointment. There were also those very rare "outings" that he would convince Alex to take him on. A trip to usually the museum or library. Ryan also learned to keep away from his mother when she brought flings inside the house. He was usually good at avoiding them, but when he was ten, one of his mother's boyfriends ended up cornering him. It had happened before, but until then, Ryan didn't understand what was really going on. What happened next, has become the subject of many of his reoccurring nightmares. It was also the day he fully realized that he was...well...different. The man got knocked back from him, but the younger boy hadn't done anything at all. After that, Ryan started to recede into himself.
Two days later, Eliza and Alex were fired, and a week later, Alexia disappeared. She left the house with a fling, not once looking back, and hasn't been returned since. Just knowing she wasn’t in the house made it feel kinda empty, even though she never really acknowledged him anyway. But still, it was kind of nice just to have another physical body inside the house, even if it was one that ignored you. Rather that than be completely and utterly alone. After the house had been deserted, Ryan attempted to take on the roles of both Eliza and Alex: trying to run the house. He could cook decently, so he didn't starve. Everything else in his life pretty much stayed the same though. He was alone for a year, with his non-human friends, trying to run a house with only him in it. Then, come summer, he received a letter that he had been admitted into a special kind of school. For the first three years, he ignored it, thinking that it was just some kind of hoax or weird recruit thing. Finally, his curiosity ate through him: he followed the instructions, bought the supplies...and showed up at Heka's in time for his 3rd year.
Most of the year was used to play catch up. Ryan got sorted into Bastet, and caught on rather quickly. He absorbed the information like a sponge. He wasn't overly smart, but it just fascinated him so much. Still, to this day, he expects to wake up and find out this was all a dream. He's more the distant type around people, and didn't exactly make any friends, but he didn't care. He hadn't grown up with anyone before, so it was fine for him to be alone now. Although, he had to admit, having so many more people around him was a little overwhelming. If this is a dream, Ryan isn't exactly sure he wants to wake up. It's like an adventure in his books. He hasn't met any real twists or turns, yet...and he's hoping that it stays that way.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: Very different Ryan
Ryan couldn't believe he was back in here. On initially coming back, fighting had been on the bottom of his list of things to do. Of course, he knew that he needed to make himself fight and get back into it. Whenever the Midgets decided to come knocking, he had to be ready. He had started this war after all, so it was only fair to have him help end it. Easier thought than done. Before, he had no will power to make himself do it, but Avery had finally gotten him back to doing it. It seemed like she was moving on, so it was only fair that Ryan try too. It was rough, but they'd make it. If she could get over this, he could too. Eventually.
He exhaled, looking around the range. The last few times he decided to come here, it had not worked out well for him. Then again, Ryan was too stubborn to let that get the best of him. First it had been with Annabeth; she had told him off and then got challenged to a fight in the arena. He lost. Next Harper had found him and challenged him to a archery contest. Once again, he had lost. (Anyone see a pattern forming?) Yeah, he pretty much lost/failed in every single fight that came his way at Camp. Quest included. Most recently (before today), Rion had found him, and Ryan had been invited to lunch. That had been a very interesting event indeed.
Right now, since everyone else (or so he hoped) was eating lunch, the ring was empty. Ryan just hoped it stayed that way. For one, he didn't even have an excuse to be here. He didn't even have his archery set anymore. It was down at the bottom of the ocean... with Aria. Ryan exhaled, trying not to let the ever present feeling of guilt flame up again. He still thought it was his fault, but he wouldn't say that out loud, less he get hit by Avery. He knew he deserved it, but having an option of getting hit or not, he didn't exactly want it. For another, he just didn't want to be around anyone but Avery.
People were still half heartedly coming up to him, and Ryan was still full out ignoring them. Truth be told, he was pretty sure if he started talking, his voice would be hoarse from it not being used that much. He flipped the remaining dagger in his good hand and nearly dropped it; Ryan managed to keep it in his hand by grabbing it right near the blade. Dangerously close. He hadn't made a stupid mistake like that since learning. Yeah, he was out of it. Moment of truth: Ryan went to shoot it at the target. Right before he threw, he thought he saw Avery, or Aria... he couldn't exactly tell. A flash of panic washed over him and he went to take the dagger back, but it was too late. "No..." he gasped, a cold feeling suddenly flooding through him.
The dagger ended up flying to the right of the target and a couple of yards beyond. Ryan's mind finally snapped back into reality. The image of his quest mate was replaced by the target. The demigod couldn't help feel a slight wave of relief, but at the same time, he felt slightly frustrated at himself. "This is not going to work," he mumbled to himself, trudging over to retrieve his weapon.
